How are sensory bins helpful for parents?

In the age of covid several parents have had to move out of the office environment into their homes to get their work done. Working from home is not only inconvenient when children are around, but down right difficult. We as parents are some how still expected to get the same amount of work done with our children by our sides. This has led to far more screen time in young children and teens than ever before. Throughout covid I was called upon by several friends and family members with questions on how to make sensory bins so they could attempt to cut back on screen time. This is when I realized I had a solution to this screen time problem and started Sammy’s Sensory. Our sensory bins are useful in helping keep your kids busy in one place while playing and having fun. Sensory bins are a win win for the whole family, your children get to play and use their imagination without screens and you get to get some work done. Even if you are using a sensory bin to encourage your child to play alone while you work, I still encourage you as a parent to take a break and join in the play with your child. Our Childrens world of imagination is beautiful, let’s not miss out on it.

Sensory bins are also a useful tool for adults to sink their hands into. Had a rough day at work? Pour some of our lavender rice into our bin and run your hands through it. Listen to the sounds the rice makes when it hits the cardboard box, and just sit. Mindfulness play can be be beneficial for adults as much as it is for children. We are in such a rush to get through out day, our work, our chores, that we forget to just sit and be. Take the bin outside if you can and play in the rice while breathing in fresh air from the outdoors. Taking our sensory bin outdoors can help lower your blood pressure and reduce stress, which is sometimes what we all need after a long day.
